Federal military truck, 1943-ish

Federal military truck, 1943-ish
Tulelake Irrigation District on the door. I reversed the one on the right for aesthetic purposes, in case you're wondering about the right-hand drive.

Finding out what this truck is took all evening and inquiries at the Heavy Equipment Forum. (Uh-huh, I'm a member.) Thanks to Don Barrett for getting me started and to the guys at the H.E. forum. tinyurl.com/hmf7ant

Here is an interesting thread about the use of this truck in Australia: g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=180739

It seems highly likely this truck was used at the Newell Internment/Segregation Camp discussed here:

I need to do a Google image search. Sometimes it takes ages to find the right one. Thank you again, Keith!

Looks like it might be a Peterbilt, age indeterminate. Lots of heavy duty trucks look similar. Here's a Peterbilt ad from 1966: www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/pb/pbad.jpg

Hmmm, I'm going to look into that. You're right, they look so similar that you have to compare minute details, sometimes. I'm pretty sure this one is 1940s. Just have to find one with that style of louvers the side of the hood.

Yay! Found it thanks to my friends in the Heavy Equipment forum - yes, I'm a member, I kid you not. It's a Federal (never heard of it), WWII military, used a lot in Australia. How it got to Newell, CA, I'll never know.

It does look very similar to '40s Peterbilts.
