The Wonders of Mallorca: Valldemossa

The Wonders of Mallorca: Valldemossa
We conclude our trip on this wonderful island by travelling along the NW coast southwards and then along its SW coast to Palma where our plane back to Britain awaits later in the same day.
Our first big stop is in the small town of Valldemossa not only famous for its beautiful location and town splendour but also for its association with the composer Chopin.
We see here a view towards the triple named: Carthusian Monastery, Parish church of Sant Bartomeu and also the Chapter House. This is where Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838-9. The Real Cartuja was originally a royal residence, until Carthusian monks occupied the building from 1399 until 1835.
The Pips shows us some alternative views too.
Best seen full screen.

Looks just as it did on my one and only visit in 1970 aged 12 (my grandparents moved out here to Palma for a couple of years). We fitted in Deia and Soller that day too. All memorable to an impressionable pre-teen!
A very fine shot, Herb!

Yes, I don't think that this place has altered much in centauries Andy, except for the modern cars, tourist and a few more modern buildings on the outskirts. We visited Deia too and you know already that we stayed in Soller. My pleasure to re-kindle memories.

A varied and beautiful collection of houses and other buildings, particularly the large church just left of centre. I love the surrounding tree-covered landscape too. Nicely captured in lovely diffused light Herb.

Two nice images in the PiPs as well..........I particularly like the artwork!

Great that you enjoyed this Keith. I love this view with the greenery too. I have some more photos of the village to come and so hope you like them just as much as this. Glad you liked the PiPs too. There were one or two of those painted tile scenes dotted around the centre.

As you say Judite -not quite as rugged as some landscapes but wonderful just the same. I do love this Mediterranean light too. Great to see you again.

It´s a wonderful view! And a village with a special past. Very importand for me, I like Chopin so much. I really enjoy listening to the emotional music. I´ve read so manybooks, but I haven´t visited the place yet. I hope, my time will come :-)

Thanks so much Aleks. It was a special place indeed and you will see more of it here over the next few days. I love Chopin's music too. In fact I took part in a little amateur Operetta/musical called 'Waltz Without End' about the adult life of the composer. -many years back now. Lovely music!
