The Spiral Tunnels of Big Hill, BC, Canada

The Spiral Tunnels of Big Hill, BC, Canada
Inspired to post this after seeing this: www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/46854248. Taken on my trip to the Canadian Rockies in 2016. This section of the railway consist of a series of tunnels blasted in the side of the mountains that create a gradual spiral accent or decent. See here that the same train is just entering the bottom tunnel and coming out on its way right from the top tunnel and this is just one spiral tunnel of many on the same 10 mile hill stretch.

See PiPs.

I suspect so my friend. Coincidentally I recently saw a 'Quest' TV doc about trains in Alaska and saw a similar length train in a loop where the driver could see the tail end too. Thanks for the visit

Amazing shot and good notes and also enjoyed all the comments!
An advantage of missing a few weeks photos due to pressure of work and then coming to them late! (Well that's my excuse anyway!).

I am a little bit proud about the spiral tunnels because the engineers inspired themself by the Gotthard mountain track in Switzerland...

Aye Andy and to prove the point here I am answering your comment three months late! I now get Ipernity news daily but the odd new comment to older photos still get missed. Very happy that you like the photos and stories alongside.

Welcome Andrea to my gallery here. Very happy that you liked this series on the Canadian Spiral tunnels -they were indeed an eye-opener. As it happens I travelled through the famous Gothard tunnel in 2013 and was surprised how hot it was when we got in the centre during the late Summer. We was on our way to Lake Como from Lucern.
Andrea great to have a contact from Switzerland, I look forward to seeing more of your work too.

Greetings from the UK, Herb
