Il territorio di Crevoladossola ha sempre avuto un grande rilievo storico perché è situato all’incrocio della Valle Divedro e della Valle Antigorio-Formazza, valli che davano accesso a importanti valichi alpini come il Sempione e il Gries.
Già un ponte romano si appoggiava con un’unica campata a tutto sesto solo sulle rocce,
mantenendo le murature fuori dall’acqua.
Il ponte sul torrente Diveria rappresentava allora l’unico punto di collegamento tra i diversi territori verso l’Europa del nord.
Il ponte di Crevola fu ricostruito nei primi anni del 1800, dopo che il 7 settembre del 1800,
Napoleone emanò l’ordine di dare inizio ai lavori per la costruzione di una strada carrozzabile, che unisse Milano a Parigi attraverso il passo del Sempione.
La strada doveva rispondere alle esigenze militari di quel tempo e permettere il passaggio delle artiglierie.

difficoltà mentre una bassa spalletta proteggeva i fianchi della strada appoggiandosi a sbalzo verso l’esterno.
Il ponte supera il torrente in un tratto in cui la corrente appare molto forte e ancora oggi sono visibili i cambiamenti che esso ha subito nel tempo.
Il trasporto di massi durante le piene ha messo spesso a rischio la tenuta delle strutture.
La costruzione del ponte eseguita secondo gli ordini di Napoleone e conclusa nel 1803, come indica una lapide in beola che si trova a lato della strada, aveva le due arcate con travi di legno perché più facilmente demolibili in caso di necessità militari.
Successivamente sono state sostituite con le attuali arcate in pietra.
