Mere Clock tower

Mere Clock tower
The centre of Mere contains a clock tower which stands on the site of the original market house, which also served as a school. The house was demolished in 1863 and the present clock tower built. This was opened in 1868 by the Prince of Wales, (later King Edward VII).

Gudrun, Cämmerer zu Nau, Erhard Bernstein, Anton Cruz Carro and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

Hi LGM it is nice to see your shots of Mere as it is quite close to where I grew up. Rosa supplies a constant coverage of a much larger area too as you well know ~ Enjoy your weekend :~)

Now that's quite unusual looking, I'd say! Great photo, Amelia.

You have taken a beautiful picture of the clock tower Amelia. Can you imagine that before the A303 was built, the roads through Mere and my village were the main route from London to Exeter!

It does seem unimaginable, but we have a similar situation in Shropshire before the A5 was rerouted to avoid many small villages. I have to say that I really enjoyed our short stay in Mere, and I think I have a mystery to challenge you with .....
