The Palladian Bridge for Nick and Rosa
The Palladian Bridge was inspired by the work of 16th-century architect Palladio. This five-arched stone bridge was built in 1762. Although ornamental, the bridge was intended to look practical. It was designed to create the illusion that a river flows through the village and under the bridge.
The whole world and his wife was wandering around Stourhead on Saturday October 8. The weather was just glorious, but I found it difficult to get a photo without any people in it.

The bridge is very attractive and the background with the pantheon up on that slope is really beautiful. Not much autumn colour yet though!
Nicely done Amelia.

This is my favourite sort of viewpoint, taking in the bridge in the foreground and the Pantheon in the background along with the curves of the ground.
I used to get there early in the morning before the gardens were officially open and wait for the sun to rise. That way there were not too many people around the place. (I'd take the same approach when visiting Sheffield Park although one had to wait until the gates were officially open.
The car parks soon get full at both gardens in Autumn.
There is the Bluebell Railway almost next door to Sheffield Park which is well worth a visit if steam engines interest you.
