Elin's tower

Elin's tower
Elin's Tower (Welsh: Tŵr Elin) is a short castellated tower located around 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) west of Holyhead, Anglesey. Built between 1820 and 1850 by the locally well known Stanley family from Penrhos, it was originally used as a summer house.

Set on the western edge of Anglesey, the dramatic cliffs, wide seascape with gorse and heather-covered landscapes of the RSPB's South Stack reserve offer something for everyone. Whether it's the dramatic setting of the 19th century lighthouse and suspension bridge at the foot of 60 metre (200 ft) cliffs or the spectacle of thousands of nesting sea birds perched perilously on cliff edges.

The sun almost came out

, Diane Putnam, Gudrun, niraK68 and 29 other people have particularly liked this photo

Superb Amelia, I have been down onto the island where the lighthouse is at the bottom of the cliffs. It is an amazing experience. (Although I don't like heights). There is a Neolithic village across from the first car park too.

I wasn't well last year and am still not up to my former fitness levels. We got down most of the steps, but I knew I'd find it difficult to climb back up (I did), so didn't quite get onto the island. Maybe next time though.

Wow. that's an impressive lump of rock and that tower is perfectly placed for the view! Very nicely composed and taken Amelia. I also like the image in the PiP - the gorse is looking splendid.

Like the scene and scale Amelia, the people and view to distant mountains add to appreciation of the rock formation too.

A spectacular cliff-top shot, Amelia, the emphasize the imperssive scale of the geology. Cheers, Joe
