Sunday 12 May 2024 – Mid Norfolk Railway Bus and Coach Day, East Dereham Sanders Coaches 531 (BV23 NUU), an MCV eVoRa bodied Volvo B8RLE new in June 2023, arriving back from a trip to Yaxham. The bus carries the name ‘Norfolk Wherry’. At their peak (circa 1900) there were over 300 such commercial trading vessels in service on the waterways of Norfolk. The Norfolk Wherry Trust website contains some history: wherryalbion.com The photograph was taken from the upper deck of Go Ahead owned Konectbus/Hedingham/Chambers 502 (LF52 ZNE), a Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TL new to London General (WVL93), which was working the Park & Ride shuttle service.

Sunday 12 May 2024 – Mid Norfolk Railway Bus and Coach Day, East Dereham Preserved R364 LGH, a Northern Counties bodied Volvo Olympian that had been new to London General in December 1997 as their NV164. In London Country Bus Services livery. Preserved former Eastern National Omnibus Company 2384 (WNO 479), an Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol KSW5G. It was new in October 1953 to Westcliff-on-Sea Motor Services with a covered top lowbridge body. Rebuilt to open top in March 1966.

Sunday 12 May 2024 – Mid Norfolk Railway Bus and Coach Day, East Dereham Former London Transport RMF1254 (254 CLT) was the experimental front engined/front entrance AEC/Park Royal Routemaster new in October 1962. Preserved former Ipswich 9 (MRT 9P), a Roe bodied Leyland Atlantean AN68/1R was new in May 1976 as a normal covered top bus

Sunday 12 May 2024 – Mid Norfolk Railway Bus and Coach Day, East Dereham Preserved former Eastern Counties Omnibus Company VR190 (VPW 85S), an Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol VR new in September 1977. This bus was to have been supplied to Waveney District Council (Lowestoft) but was diverted to ECOC after ECOC took over the WDC operation. Seen from on board LDV 467F, an Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol RELH new to the Southern National Omnibus Company in March 1968 as their 2375.

Sunday 12 May 2024 – Market Place, East Dereham. This photograph was taken from the upper deck of Go Ahead owned Konectbus/Hedingham/Chambers 502 (LF52 ZNE) which was running the Park & Ride shuttle service as part of the Mid Norfolk Railway Bus and Coach Day. It is a Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TL new to London General (WVL93) which will be put to work on the Clacton Breeze seafront service in a couple of weeks time. Passing by, as part of the event, is Peelings Coaches (J Joplin) of Tittleshall, Norfolk FAH 275Y, a Plaxton Supreme V bodied Volvo B10M new in March 1982 to Smith’s Coaches of Wood Norton, near Fakenham. Up ahead, not connected with the event as far as I am aware, is Expressway Coaches Limited, Wath-upon-Dearne, near Rotherham YJ13 GXX, a Berkhof Axial bodied VDL SB400 new in May 2013. Behind that coach is Konectbus 617 (SK15 HKA), an Alexander Dennis Enviro400D new in August 2015, about to work the 1055 service 11 to Watton. The bus carries branding for the Watton-Norwich service 3 which was interworked with service 11 in a pattern East Dereham-Watton-Norwich-Watton-East Dereham.

Sunday 12 May 2024 – Mid Norfolk Railway Bus and Coach Day, East Dereham. The rally was based at the MNR station in East Dereham. This view from the station platform shows Dan’s Coach Travel (Dan Trent) T125 OAH, a Wright Renown bodied Volvo B10BLE that was new to Ambassador Travel in March 1999, standing by to take visitors on a ride to Yaxham. As on many preserved railways there are some interesting ancillary artifacts on display around the property. A wheelbarrow containing coal and a porter’s barrow with old suitcases complete this picture.
