Let's go exploring in a country between the Atlantic and the Pacific, some of the most beautiful national parks in the world are located here , where fox and rabbit say good night to each other, where bison, bears, moose and beavers run around.

A few facts about Canada: Canada is the second largest country in the world with an area of almost 10,000,000 square kilometers. The capital is Ottawa, the country is relatively sparsely populated, currently the population is 38,000,217 million people. The currency is the Canadian dollar . Canada became independent on July 1, 1867. July 1 is the national holiday (Canada Day). English and French are the two official languages. Canada consists of 10 provinces and 3 territories.

With a jet of KLM, we fly here over the southern tip of Greenland the largest island on earth.

Great views when flying over Greenland. The entire Greenland inland is covered by a sheet of ice, only the coastal areas are ice-free. PiP1: Only the uppermost peaks of the volcanic rocks rise above the inland ice, resulting in a fascinating and interesting image. PiP2: Greenland is rich in raw materials. There are large deposits of gold, platinum, copper, zinc, nickel, molybdenum and iron, also rubies and diamonds.

Flight over Hudson Bay, a marginal sea of over 1.20 million km² connected to the Atlantic Ocean via Hudson Strait. Hudson Bay has a tundra and taiga climate. In winter, the bay is iced over; it is also called the ice cellar of North America. However, due to global warming, the ice is thawing earlier and earlier, which is becoming a threat to polar bears, as one of their main food sources, seals, is only accessible through the frozen Hudson Bay. PiP1: No, these are not swimming beaches, these are environmental sins from oil sands mining Oil sands are indeed an important source of petroleum. But the mining of the oil-water-sand mixture and the extraction of the oil are very harmful to the environment and the climate and leave highly visible traces.

A few impressions from Calgary Calgary a cosmopolitan city with numerous skyscrapers in the province of Alberta. The city owes its growth to its status as the center of the Canadian oil industry. With a population of 1,239,200, Calgary is the largest city in Alberta and the fourth largest in Canada. In 1988, Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympics.

Women are people! This memorial is a tribute to the Famous Five: Irene Parlby, Louise McKinney, Nellie McClung, Emily Murphy and Henrietta Muir Edwards, all from Alberta. The went to the highest court in the British Empire to appeal a 1928 Supreme Court decision. That court had ruled that women could not be appointed to the Senate because they were not qualified persons. On October 18, 1929, the Privy Council overturned this decision. This sculpture is also featured on the back of the $50 bill.

Jaume Plensa's "Wonderland" in Calgary Artist Jaume Plensa has built a giant sculpture called Wonderland at the base of Calgary's tallest tower, The Bow. The work of wire mesh is 39 feet high and resembles the head of a young girl. The sculpture is walkable and visitors can view the surroundings from inside the head. My vision for Wonderland is to inspire everyone who experiences the sculpture: I believe that the architecture of our bodies is the palace for our dreams, says Plensa.

Seen on the way to Banff, The McDougall Memorial United Church, Morleyville Morley is a First Nations settlement on the Stoney Indian Reserve in southern Alberta. It is located along the Canadian Pacific Railway between the Trans-Canada Highway and the Bow River, upstream to Ghost Lake. The settlement and Indian Reserve are part of the Stoney Nation. The historic McDougall Memorial United Church is located a few miles from Morley. Built in 1875, it is the oldest surviving Protestant church in southern Alberta and the oldest surviving building in the Bow Valley. On May 22, 2017, it was damaged by fire, presumably arson. Restoration was completed in 2022. It was once part of Morleyville, the oldest pioneer settlement in southern Alberta and home to the first cattle herds. Morleyville was founded by Methodist missionaries as a mission station and existed until 1921. The church is now a historic site.

On the way to Banff, Banff is the largest town within Banff National Park in the Canadian province of Alberta. Banff is located at an altitude of 1399 m in the Rocky Mountains, on the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), on the Bow River. The settlement has had small town status since 1990. PiP: Banff Tunnel Mountain Campground Tunnel Mountain Campground is the closest campground to the town of Banff. Due to its proximity to the town, Tunnel Mountain Campground has excellent access to the town via a year-round bus service. The campground is also close to several hiking and biking trails.

Early in the morning, when the world is still sleeping, there are wonderful quiet views with the visit of a squirrel which showed no fear of contact .

View to Cascade Mountain. Cascade Mountain is a mountain in the Bow River Valley, the mountain was named for the waterfall or cascade on the southern flank of the peak. The mountain is also called Stoney Chief, Cascade is the highest mountain near Banff.

A trip to the hoodoo There are some surreal sights here, the hoodoos in Banff National Park are definitely one of them. Amidst the forests of Banff National Park, strange figures rise out of the forest floor, the hoodoos. What is a hoodoo? A "hoodoo" is the term for a unique rock formation. Hoodoos are tower-like structures made of sedimentary rocks that have been formed by erosion. Hoodoos occur mainly in arid and semi-arid climates. They reach heights of 1.5 to 45 metres. Unlike ordinary rock needles, hoodoos do not have a particular profile; the circumference of such a more or less round rock tower increases and decreases from the base to the top at more or less regular intervals. The shape is reminiscent of a totem pole. Other names for hoodoos are "fairy chimneys" or "goblins",

From the location where the hoodoos are viewed, there is also an excellent view over the Bow River valley. The Bow River is a 623 kilometre long river in the Canadian province of Alberta. The headwaters of the Bow River are in the Rocky Mountains north of Banff National Park. The Bow River flows through the mountains, passing the small town of Banff where it falls 10 metres at Bow Falls. The Bow River is important for irrigation, for energy production and also as a source of drinking water, it is also an important habitat for fish. The surrounding higher mountains can also be observed very well from here.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel The famous Banff Springs Hotel in the heart of Banff National Park, is a landmark in the Alpine town of Banff. It has been called Canada's "Castle in the Rockies" for more than 130 years. The hotel is a former railway hotel of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) . The hotel burned down in 1926 and was replaced by a new building in 1928. In the late 1960s, the hotel was winterised and could then be opened all year round. Under the name Banff Springs Hotel, the hotel was added to the register of the National Historic Site of Canada in 1988.

So that the railway builders and settlers are not forgotten, you can see this sculpture in the middle of Banff to commemorate the men and women of that time.

Johnston Canyon Trail A natural attraction to see. The hike through Johnston Canyon is spectacular and very popular. The canyon is very scenic, with several waterfalls that are easily accessible via a relatively short distance.
