Up From the West Quoddy Shore

The path at the top, leading left and right, traverses miles of rocky shoreline cliffs; and the waters edge, which is far below, is mostly inaccessible to hikers. Here though, is a reprieve for those who generally don't rappel down cliffs.
Lighthouse? Can't Get There From Here

Down this stairway ... Head Harbor Lightstation (AKA East Quoddy Lighthouse) is on an island off the far end of a peninsula at the extreme north end of Campobello Island New Brunswick, and is accessible only at low tide by hiking across a sandspit. (Hmm, or by boat.) High/low tide variations here are in the range of 7-8 meters. Careless hikers have been marooned at the lighthouse for half a day (and night!) waiting for the next low tide. (The U.S. - Canada international border crossing joining Lubec Maine to Campobello Island is currently closed, except for Canadian citizens shopping for necessities. Retail stores on Campobello Island are very limited.)

And on another nearby peninsula, Lubec Maine is a little more east, but this is about as far north-and-east as one can get in the U.S.

I wondered if posting a little trio of firearms photos might stir some controversy: especially under the stereotype of "Americans and Their Misplaced Obsession with Guns". It is not my intention to be controversial.
I do own hunting firearms and a couple of British historic military rifles, but I am not entranced with owning them. Nor do I think the US Constitution is being interpreted correctly guaranteeing gun possession; but I also believe my personal property is not subject to confiscation.
Make no mistake: violence must stop; gun violence must stop.

Time Machine Photo -- Randomly, I get sucked into some kind of 4th Dimension anomaly ... here, I clicked this one off as I was transported through a Civil War camp somewhere in Maryland or Virginia, apparently in 1862.

Also known as Pennsylvania long rifle. Used by American marksmen in the Revolutionary War; very accurate for its time, up to 200 yards; usually about 45 caliber. Trade-off for accuracy was slow rate-of-fire, 2 shots per minute or less. Both British and American line companies used "Brown Bess" smoothbore muskets, or variants thereof: 75 caliber, accuracy less than 90 yards, rate-of-fire up to 5 shots per minute. All infantry weapons of this era were muzzleloading. (Rate-of-fire data is from internet sources -- I am very skeptical: I think it was markedly slower.)

Taking a break from the pressures of Hollywood, Alfred Hitchcock vacationed to Acadia National Park, and on Halloween hiked on the summit of Cadillac Mountain.
