200th post

30 Sep 2010 41 29 852
This is my 200th photo posted here, so I have used up all the 200 posts allowed for a free account here in Ipernity. I don’t think I’ll upgrade to the Ipernity Club so I want to thank all the people who have appreciated my photos and left a comment or a star. What you see here is the ancient tower and the lighthouse of Sant'Elia, in Cagliari.

A bar with a view

24 Dec 2015 29 13 670
This is again the sight of the coast of Masua (which I posted few days ago). You can see the same rock called "Pan di zucchero" in the distance. This walk path was once the road which lead to a mine, just above a high cliff. In one of the tunnels of the mine they have set a small bar-café (visible to the right here but closed) and the road has been paved and turned into a very spectacular promenade. The tower of the castle

09 May 2010 17 6 692
The Castle of Bosa was built in 1112 by the Marquises of Malaspina from Tuscany who ruled the country. This tower was added in 1330. After the conquer of the island by the Spaniards the castle was the residence of the Spanish nobility. Most of the inner buildings are in ruins and they have been recently restored.

I thought it was worth-while to record the ending of the last day of the year...

Charing Cross, London

23 Jun 2015 11 7 402
Charing Cross Railway station. From Wikipedia: Charing Cross /ˌtʃærɪŋ ˈkrɒs/ denotes the junction of Strand, Whitehall and Cockspur Street, just south of Trafalgar Square in central London. It gives its name to several landmarks, including Charing Cross railway station, one of the main London rail terminals. Charing Cross is named after the Eleanor cross that stood on the site, in what was once the hamlet of Charing. The site of the cross has been occupied since 1675 by an equestrian statue of King Charles I. A loose Victorian replica of the medieval cross, the Queen Eleanor Memorial Cross, was erected a short distance to the east outside the railway station. Since the second half of the 18th century, Charing Cross has been seen by some as the exact "centre of London" CLICK ON THE PHOTO TO SEE IT BETTER

Masua

24 Dec 2015 28 12 552
Masua is a small mining town, now abandoned, in the south-westerly coast of Sardinia. Most of the mines were in the hills by the sea not far from this beach. The ore, after it was purified and ground, it was brought to this beach and loaded into small sailing boats which carried it to a nearby harbour where it was loaded into large cargo vessels. That rock visible in the distance it is called nowadays "Pan di Zucchero", which is a fantasy name given to advertise the place for tourists. In spite of the many mines and industrial plants still present the coast is very beautiful and much attended in summertime. CLICK ON THE PHOTO TO SEE IT BETTER

A menacing cloud

A beach in the gulf of Cagliari. The objects with the shape of a ball visible on the sand are called locally: sea potatoes, but actually they are not potatoes nor fruits but the result of the waves which compact some species of sea-weeds into a balls and then bring them to the beach at high tide.

An extra-large flag

This is a Mexican sailing ship "Cuavatemac" visiting our city. For this occasion they hoisted a gigantic national flag visible from far away. A good way of advertising their presence.

Cannon Street Underground Station

23 Jun 2015 12 9 403
In the heart of the City a modern station which fits with the surrounding buildings. I never loved the City, I find it quite cold and without soul but this station with its reflections makes the environment a bit less grey.
