Yes Valerie you are excused knowing how it is trying to run more than one site at the same time. As you know I have for the first time opened an account n Flickr as a safety net, problem is though that Flickr does not cater for the other Goodies that Ipernity does meaning many will need a secondary place to pitch their tents meaning double work.

Like you I too hope that Ipernity can be rescued, it is a Unique web site.

Thank you for your understanding, John, and I know you are in the same boat as me. Ipernity is indeed a unique website as we have found out after many fruitless searches for similar alternatives. I very much hope that ipernity is saved.

Val, I wonder ... if there are certain photos with comments etc. that you'd like to save have you thought of saving them as a pdf file?

Not maybe practical for hundreds of photos, but it can be done and may well be an answer for specific photos. If you want to know more just ask and I'll talk you through it. I've done it already with some of mine and it's straightforward enough, but it is only one photo at a time! :)

The pdf thing is fine.. but just not practical for more than a handful of things.

There are alot of pdf makers free out there..

Thanks so much for the suggestion, Paul. I don't think it would be practical for me to save every comment on every picture anyway, but I can at least try it out. Another idea I had was just to copy and paste some comments into a file I make for that purpose. It would kind of be like you're saving letters from friends. But how many times would I read them and would it be worth my time and computer space? I'd have to think it over.

The biggest problem with these types of photo sharing sites that encourage social interaction is relationships grow to depend on them for their sustenance. When the sites are closed down or sold to the highest bidder who then makes changes that hamper the community, it disrupts, and in many cases, destroys them, unless the community finds another suitable place to carry on its friendships. I don't think owners of these websites realize just how disruptive to the community it is when they shut them down.

One big lesson that I take away from this experience is that nothing on the internet is permanent. It's like a typical Hollywood marriage; if you can keep it going for 5-7 years, that's considered a long term relationship. If you can develop friendships that survive a social web site closure, that is considered miraculous, lol!

I just cant even start saving albums. I have been saving a different site.. and others pages for the site we have been fighting for for 5 years.... I just cant go through this again.

I have the originals.... I dont know if I will stay on flickr.. I am there for now.

I know the feeling well Pam, I transfered 6 years work from Multiply com to Ipernity 5 years ago, now there are 26 thousand or more photos here.

I have seen mention of a method for bulk transfer that shoud, with an add on be availabe for users of Firefox, it is said to be ideal for moving complete albums at one time but of course without any comments.

I see ipernity isn't the only site where member struggle to keep it open. It seems to prove my point about websites not lasting much past 5-7 years unchanged and/or closed.

I hope you will consider staying with Flickr if something should happen to ipernity. Many ipernity friends are there, at least.

I also have all my original photos, so that part of it isn't the issue. How the ipernity community is impacted is what concerns me now.

John... its call downloadall.. and it will certainly download.. but ONLY the pics.. the titles will all be numbers EXACTLY the same as the present Ipernity download does. Nothing to be gained. I have the originals.. cant download the titling and narratives. There is nothing that does that. A script would have to be written by flickr to do that transfer... just as Ipernity did one to transfer from flickr to here.

No need to worry about the past. I'm sure there will be nice comments shared also today and in the future =)

That is very true, Sami; I just have to get used to the fact that there will always be changes, and that things work out eventually ;-)

I agree wholeheartedly & echo your words Val .....We understand how you feel. Flickr is so slow unlike IP which is one of its good points being Fast. also a great bunch of people, which have made this place enjoyable....... Take care we will all catch each other eventually at some place.
