Evening Walk

It’s no secret: Robbie likes to take something from his walks –a twig, a fir cone –, but I have never before seen him this ambitious... The branch was about three meters long. Robbie tried really hard, but had to give up in the end.

Not an oistrich

They say oistriches hide their heads in the sand in case of imminent danger... That may be something for oistriches, not for a fearless dachshund. However, during many a winter, experience has taught Robbie that the most interesting things can be found under the snow. It’s about 4-6 inches thick, and still comfortable for him. With more snow, he has to move by jumping, which he can’t keep up for long.

Waiting in Trier

For taking pictures, some photographers may rely on inspiration –I rely on boredom.

Waiting in Ferrara

One of those typical scenes... Robbie’s line firmly wound around my thigh (just in case he’ll detect an enemy earlier than I do). A nap of water (have I told you it was VERY HOT in Ferrara?). Waiting. In this case, we were waiting under the bell tower of Ferrara Cathedral. If I don’t look particularly happy, it must have been because something was missing... A cigar? Ah, wait a minute...

There’s no reason to believe that Robbie recognized the oversize portrayal, but he definitely smelled the pet shop behind it.

Wieskirche near Steingaden

While Robbie was held by this unknown young lady, an anonymous gentleman was trying to take a picture of him. Well, that’s not as easy as it may seem to the profane and inexperienced...

Wessobrunn - Inside the “Römerturm”

The “Römerturm” must be the oldest part of the convent . You can’t get far inside, but even at the door opening the temperature was more agreeable than under the burning sun.

Probably as close as I’ll ever get to an action shot...

Look at him being proud of the three (!) fir cones he’s found... When nothing serious happens during the last part of our walk (such as a cat or a canine enemy) he’ll bring them home and add them to his very large fir cone collection.

Eyes and ears wide open

The gates are closed, and Robbie is free to roam in the garden and collect ticks. He loves to watch and surprise passers-by, especially when they happen to be accompanied by dogs.

We got Robbie from an animal shelter when he was 2 1/2 years old and still carried the name “Troll”. However, he didn’t listen to it, so we felt free to rechristen him. (He neither listens to his new name, but who cares?) He loves people, but wants to eat any animal he can get hold of.
