Baarn By Night - Torenlaan

Baarn - Eemweg

Are you a Christian? If so, be honest and tell me: do you believe exactly the same as your neighbor? Traditionally, the Dutch didn’t, and so had to build a great number of churches. Later on, due to the ecumenical movement –and secularisation!–, differences were often resolved, and empty churches put to other use. This one is now inhabited.

I’m not really a flower photographer, perhaps because flowers are so obtrusive, and leave little room for the photographer’s personality to shine through. That said, I think I have never taken a flower picture I liked better.

For many years now, my mother is the proud owner of a tumbler.

Baarn - Sparrenlaan

For my aversion to barbers we have to go back many years. Yes, Dr. Freud, this is where it all began. The “Sparrenlaan” once had quite a few shops now turned into regular houses: there, you could buy vegetables (2x), groceries, bread (2x), meat (2x), milk, electronics, notions, and other things I can’t think of at the moment. The house above used to be a barber shop, for men on the first floor, for women on the second. Every fourth week I was sent here, with a guilder in the sweaty palm of my hand, very much aware that there were better things to do, and that the ugly duckling would only leave uglier.

Hortensias are old-fashioned plants, and among my few favorites. This one still needs some time to become recognizable.

Robbie Posing As Rug

Robbie is lying on the bed: he’s not allowed to do so, and feels guilty about it.

Cora Light

I shot this picture only seconds after the darker one. Originally, it lacked a certain atmospheric quality, so I’ve cropped it and have tried to improve its general appearance a little by processing it. It’s still unsharp (well, let’s say “soft”), but it has more of Cora, and I like it better now.

Robbie

We got Robbie from an animal shelter when he was 2 1/2 years old and still carried the name “Troll”. However, he didn’t listen to it, so we felt free to rechristen him. (He neither listens to his new name, but who cares?) He loves people, but wants to eat any animal he can get hold of.

The hand on the top left is my daughter’s, and so is the chewing gum.

Have I told you I’m the proud owner of a digital camera now?
