I celebrate this new year of my life with the appearance of Camille in my stream. My artistic tribute to femininity. I feel very privileged to have had this visit from her on this bright sunny day. I took advantage of the streaming natural rays and avoided using any artificial supplementary lighting. Not my usual style of working. The experience was challenging, elating and of course delightful. Camille made it more so. A natural beauty, she is confident in her poses and an admirable artist and collaborator. This image is worth viewing large, of course. At this point I would also like to extend an invitation to all my contacts. As I have exceeded 6,000, I can no longer do it through Flickr's "invite" feature. They say it is too weak to handle such numbers. So here goes... At first I didn't think it would be too cool or modest of me to invite people to my own fan club. How self-indulgent this would appear. So I held off for as long as I could. But then Mary Bogdan, the creator of the group, artist extraordinaire and loving wife, said to me that I owe it to all my friends on Flickr and that who better to have access to my fans than myself? I thought and thought about it. I realized that as the group grows with friends that are on her and others' lists, the friends who I have selected or who have selected me and who may want to be in the group the most, cannot be ignored and left off the invited list. So here it is. An official invitation to join my fan club by me. Welcome one and all! It started out as a real question I was asking myself. I have been feeling very lazy lately, not writing any texts to go along with my photographs. To be perfectly honest, I find doing the photography, really, quite easy. I don't need to say this, but actually, quite pleasurable. Photographing my models as well as processing the images afterward – all pleasurable activities. Maybe it’s easy because it is pleasurable. Writing about the experience is the hard part. I have to step back and look into the scene as an observer, but all the time being aware of the emotions I am feeling, while photographing and working with my models so that I can write about them. The models and the feelings, that is. It occurs to me that on a certain level all my models evoke similar emotions in me. I suppose it is because I am the one that casts them and therefore they meet my own aesthetic requirements and sensibilities. Kind of like having the opportunity to create your very own perfect woman from a catalogue. It is rare that a model that I meet will not appeal to me, although it has happened. I still was able to pull out some great shots from the session. As I said earlier, the photography part is easy for me. But back to my question “Poetry or prose? What will Milena inspire today?” I guess it would just have to be considered as rhetorical. Beauty is always inspiring. So whether one writes words, composes music, paints or photographs, through inspiration, women like Milena have been responsible for much greater beauty on this earth than just their own. Is it all in the genes? Probably so. A classic nude that will have to be flagged "Restricted" due to a small tuft of dead human cells that grow out of the pubic area and are extremely offensive to some people and societies. With little fanfare it stares into the distance, as though walls can not stop its gaze. It sees beyond the clouds. Towards the earth it hovers and then stopping to assess its discovery. The garden of Earthly delights comes to mind. Back by popular demand, Isabella has kindly agreed to disrobe in our garden to the delight, or was it shock of our neighbours. Their curiosity was great when they became aware of our session in the garden and in plain view. With barely perceivable discomfort, Isabella stood her ground as I was snapping away. I particularly enjoyed the contrast of her pink skin against the foliage and the blue trellis in front of the shed. I usually work very hard when I am shooting. Very caught up in the moment and deep in my creative mode. It is only much later that I get to view the results of the shoot, work on the images in Photoshop and can finally sit back and admire the photographs. Writing about them as I do for Flickr brings much to light by way of my feelings and emotions that the photographs convey. I must give a big thank you to my wife Mary Bogdan, who is the gardener and creator of this seemingly wild, ambient, magical location. All the lighting is natural, outdoors daylight.
