On October 12, 1948, Fidel Castro Ruz and Mirta Díaz Balart were married in this unusual Art Deco church in the center of Banes. The first wooden church was built in 1910, what we see today, was built in 1948. After their divorce in 1954, during Castro's exile in Mexico, Mirta remarried and moved to Spain. Fidel and Mirta had one son, Fidel Castro Díaz-Balart (1949–2018), called Fidelito. He was a nuclear physicist and responsible for the construction of Cuba's only nuclear power plant "Juragura", which was never finished and is now abandoned. Cuba kept free of nuclear power. images.todocuba.org/2018/08/fidel-castro-universidad-holguin4-690x1024-690x1024.jpg

Such revolutionary billboards are indispensable for Cuba. This one in eastern Cuba is about the 60th anniversary of the liberation of "Songo la Maya". Unfortunately the old hand painted billboards are more and more replaced by photographs over the last years.
