The footbridge over the ex-LNWR "Leeds New Line" dates from the line’s opening in 1900 but today it is almost disappearing into the jungle. The ex-LYR Calder Valley line lies beyond just west of Heaton Lodge Junction where the two run parallel.

To the south of Lockwood station, the ex-LYR line to Sheffield passes over the valley of the River Holme by an impressive 476 yards (435 m) long stone viaduct to Berry Brow.
An unidentified Northern Class 144 Pacer diesel multiple unit crosses with 2B13 the 11.12 Huddersfield to Sheffield train.

It's grim up North - not... A beautiful morning in the classic Pennine landscape of the Colne valley west of Huddersfield. Looking north from Manchester Road.
On the Millstone Grit viaduct an unidentified TransPennine Class 185 diesel multiple unit on 2M62 the 07.53 Huddersfield to Manchester Piccadilly service passes Spa mill built in 1907 & one of the few still operational in the area.

Heading east GB RailFreight Class 60 diesel 60056 with 6E36 the 01.45 Liverpool Tuebrook Sidings to Drax biomass train has just passed Heaton Lodge Junction north of Huddersfield on the ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Calder Valley line at 06.54.
The shot was taken from the footbridge over the ex-LNWR New Line which now joins the Calder Valley line at Heaton Lodge East Junction off left. The footpath continues under the LYR line in a very low tunnel and up the hill past the stone building.

The warm evening light makes the warm Yorkshire grit of the Gatehouse on Low Hills Lane, Lindley even warmer!
Designed by Edgar Wood and built in 1900 as coachman’s accommodation this unusual building marked the entrance to the Fieldhead estate which is now completely built over.

Over in bay platform 2 the Sheffield train is formed of a 3-car Class 144 Pacer dmu. I arrived on this service but returned to Leicester via Wakefield.
Huddersfield station's Victorian trainshed forms a splendid frame.

An unidentified Northern Class 150 Sprinter diesel multiple unit takes Longroyd viaduct high above the Colne Valley with train 2B07 the 08.12 Huddersfield to Sheffield via Penistone service.
The water in the Huddersfield Narrow Canal had been calm but a gaggle of ducks decided to swim off before the train arrived!

Northern Class 144 diesel multiple unit 144019 is seen crossing Longroyd Viaduct with train 2B05 the 07.12 Huddersfield to Sheffield service. It will soon enter Lockwood tunnel at the other end of which is the first station stop at Lockwood. Arrival at Sheffield will be at 08.28.
