The splendid cathedral in Chartres dominates the city and is particularly impressive lit up at night. It was a 10 minute walk from our hotel but this view was taken from the hotel room window.
Built between 1194 & 1260 it must have astounded the people of the time even more than it amazes us today. Part of the old town, including most of the library associated with the School of Chartres, was destroyed by Allied bombs in 1944 but the cathedral survived.

The patisserie on Rue de l'Eglise is an inviting beacon in the pre-dawn half-light of Bollezeele town centre. The fence around the bell tower of Église Saint-Wandrille is silhouetted against the blue sky.

No prizes for guessing that this was taken in Chesterfield.

A scene that has changed out of recognition in the last 50 years! The Trent & Mersey Canal meandered through Shelton Bar steelworks and many a splendid industrial vista could be seen from the tow path. The gas holder, cables, pipework and scrap piles cannot hide the impressive Wolstanton church on the skyline.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven is situated on top the former Aztec sacred precinct near the Templo Mayor on the northern side of the Plaza de la Constitución.
It was built in sections from 1573 to 1813 around the original church that was constructed soon after the Spanish conquest of Tenochtitlan.
It's not your eyes, the building was structurally unstable because much of Mexico City is built upon the dried lakebed of Lake Texcoco. Restoration work beginning in the 1990s stabilized the cathedral and it was removed from the endangered list in 2000

St James' church, Dunwich. The lost city of England.
In the Anglo-Saxon period, Dunwich was the capital of the Kingdom of the East Angles and in the 13th century it had 4000 inhabitants with an international port similar in size to 14th century London! It's difficult to believe that when today's village has only 183 people. Coastal erosion has destroyed over half the area of the old city which once extended 2km further out to sea.
HFF and have a great weekend.
Aylestone Leicester 4th April 2020

Perhaps not an obvious cityscape but Aylestone was a village 3 miles south of the city from Saxon times until 1891 when it was incorporated into the Borough of Leicester.
There are still "villagey" scenes if you know where to look. This view shows the red-brick wall of the old school, far left, the school house and the 13th century St Andrew's church.
HFF everyone. Have a Happy Easter and keep safe.
