Cafe Louvre, Narodni Trida, Prague, CZ, 2006

01 Sep 2007 393
The Cafe Louvre was a favorite hangout of Franz Kafka, but it is only partly retro in feel. The crowd there today is relatively young, and basically there to party. I shot this photo with my Lomo 135BC, and was the first Lomo shot that I used my Polysix light meter with, as the exposure guide on the camera was useless at such a late hour of the day. Even then, I ended up with a major light leak on the photo, so I cropped it to square format.

Berliner Dom, Berlin, Germany, 2007

01 Sep 2007 1 1 440
The Berliner Dom (Dome) was built as a cathedral between 1895 and 1905 to replace an earlier cathedral constructed here in 1747, which in turn replaced a chapel constructed in 1465 for the Hohenzollem family. Heavily damaged in World War II, the current Berliner Dom is a simpler and less glamourous building than the original, although an extensive reconstruction was conducted during the period 1975-1993.

Brandenberger Tor (Brandenberg Gate), Berlin, Germ…

01 Sep 2007 1 1 419
The Brandenberger Tor, or Brandenberg Gate, was constructed in 1788-1791 by the architect Carl Gotthard Langhans as an actual city gate, back in the days when Berlin was indeed a walled city with gates. It was the last, and most monumental of all the gates, and has long been one of the most recognizable landmarks of Berlin.

Class 451 and 452 EMUs are a necessary evil of travelling on Ceske Drahy. They're noisy, old, dirty, slow, rough-running, heavily vandalised, and laughably out of date, but they're often the only trains working the line you need to travel, and they rarely break down, actually. Here Ceske Drahy #452 013-6, a 452 Class EMU, waits to work a local service to Benesov U Prahy.

Krapcice, Bohemia(CZ), 2006

Krapcice is a small village not far from Rip, which is a mountain, in Central Bohemia. I took this from Rip with my Ikoflex.

CD Speeder On Bridge Over The Sazava River At Cerc…

01 Sep 2007 392
This is a bridge over the Sazava River In Cercany, Bohemia, where the opportunities to shoot great train pictures seem ever-present. In reality, I've never got a good shot of a train here, in spite of frequently being there, the bridge having trains every 15-30 minutes, and it being perfectly legal to walk out on the bridge!! As they say on Monty Python "I got a slug," but actually this isn't a slug at all...even worse, it's a speeder!! :-) At least it's an interesting one with a built-in crane.

View From Rip, Bohemia(CZ), 2006

01 Sep 2007 361
Here's another view from Rip, giving a better idea of the expansive view that you can get from it. In honesty, though, the summit isn't the best place. This is actually the side of the mountain, where there are fewer trees in the way, as even in the Fall, when I went, the summit's view is obscured by the trees that cover it.

DPP #8211 Seen From Zelecnicni Most, Prague, CZ, 2…

This shot originally had a bad light leak on the left, but I cropped it to square format so now it's alright. This is my only Prague tram photo taken from this location, and one of the few that I have taken from a above.

DPP #7045 and 7135 at Narodni Divadlo, Prague, CZ,…

This is a great intersection for tram photos! This is my first-ever color tram photo with the Ikoflex! I hope you like it, even if it has the same exposure problems as the other shots on this roll, plus a massive light leak on the right which I had to crop out. See my "Vaclavske Namesti In The Rain" shot for more details of this. For the couple who I inadvertantly caught in the crosswalk, if you contact me and give me your permission I can unblur your faces for you, if you want.

DPP #7158 At Narodni Divadlo, Prague, CZ, 2007

Here's another shot taken at Narodni Divadlo. Although I didn't notice it until the last second, the police make for a better composition of the photo.

Vaclavske Namesti In The Rain, Prague, CZ, 2007

This is part of a larger experiment with loading my Ikoflex with color film. This roll was badly underexposed, though, because of the shutter having no intermediate settings between 1/100 and 1/300, and of course my lack of skill. I'm wondering if the batteries in my Gossen Polysix lightmeter are a problem, too. I've also got a bit of a blue cast over everything, which I've noticed to a lesser degree with other photos taken with a Zeiss, and I've got vignetting ala Holga or Lomo, although the vignetting is something I've experienced before with underexposed Ikoflex shots. I also had considerable light leaks on this roll, although I doubt this is the camera, as I mishandled the film several times, and we know how 120 is. The issues with the film, I sense, also inhibited the lab from doing a good scan. Any tips on how to get the most out of color in an Ikoflex or other old Zeiss-lensed TLR would be welcome. :-)

DPP #7247 And Another T3 At Ujezd Tram Stop, Pragu…

This is over the Most Legii from Narodni Divadlo. The Hladova Zed, or Hunger Wall, can be seen on Petrin Hill in the snow.

DPP #7014 On Most Legii, Prague, CZ, 2007

This shot is taken facing the opposite direction from the Narodni Divadlo shots. We're looking towards Ujezd, and the Hladova Zed is visible on the left on Petrin Hill. These photos aren't exactly in order now since I had to repost this one with corrections. I took this one between the Narodni Divadlo shots and the Ujezd shot. :-)
