This shot is roughly from the summit for Jested, but the apparent reflections in the photo indicate we were still on the gondola at this point.

This is on the cable car looking in the opposite direction from the previous shot.

I took this from Horni Hanychov, looking up the cable run to the Hotel Jested.

Here's an interior shot of the station, with one of the gondolas waiting for departure. This was #2, which took us to the summit.

This is the cable gondola station at the base of Jested. Notice the Ceske Drahy station sign.

Hotel Jested, Cameraphone Version, Liberecky Kraj,…

10 Jul 2013 135
This is a cameraphone shot that I got during my most recent visit to Jested in the Jizersky Hory (mountains) in Liberecky Kraj. Most tourist guides count the Hotel Jested as a Liberec hotel, but the catch is that it's on the summit of Jested, the tallest mountain in the area at 1,012 metres. I've always thought that the Hotel Jested is the strangest looking hotel that I've ever seen, although it could have been imagined by a cartoonist for the Jetsons. It is possible to drive up to it, hike up to it, or take the cable car, which while not a railway is operated by Ceske Drahy.

Dual-Gauge Tram Tracks, Liberec, Liberecky Kraj, B…

15 Aug 2010 1 456
I took this at the zoo stop on the DPML (Liberec) tram system. The dual gauge is in order to facilitate operation to Jablonec, which has a 1-metre narrow-gauge tram system. Actually, as pre-1990's tram lines go, this route is relatively new, having not been completed until 1955. Since 1969, however, the line to Liberec has been the only surviving tram line in Jablonec, and is now operated by DPML. Even the line to Liberec saw sporadic use in the 1970's and 1980's, as reconstruction work was done, and planning argued over. The current operation dates to December 17th, 1989, exactly one month after the Velvet Revolution. The line is currently under reconstruction again, so I'm not aware of what the current service disruptions are. It is proposed as part of the new rebuilding to convert the Jablonec line to standard gauge, but I didn't see evidence of this for certain when I was in Jablonec or Liberec.

Radnice (B&W square version), Liberec, Liberecky K…

I did three shoots of the Radnice while I was in Liberec, one with the Lomo, and two with the Ikoflex, one with Portra (which I haven't uploaded yet, and may never), and one with Fomapan, namely this one. This might be my favorite shot of the bunch.

I took this from the church. If that's a clue as to which church it is, then great. I decided to upload this for the sky, though, not the buildings.

This church, Kostel Sv. Kříže (Church of the Holy Cross), is on a back street of Liberec. I don't know much about it, though.

This is the most I can zoom in without getting too much grain, mostly from the scanner, though, and not the film. I'm concerned the film is another reason why that Na rybníčku sign is blurred, as it's Portra and not Velvia. Anyway, at least you get a better look at the tram, which is a Tatra T3, if I'm not mistaken, but equipped slightly differently from a Prague one.

I like my Ikoflex, especially because of its defacto 50mp resolution, at least when it's used right. The name on the tram stop, while nevertheless unreadable, is Na rybníčku.

Radnice, Liberec, Liberecky Kraj, Bohemia(CZ), 200…

The radnice, or city hall, in Liberec is one of the city's most notable landmarks, and frequently appears in encyclopedia entries and travel guides. Built in 1893, it looks a lot older, of course, as it isn't common to find something so recent that features so much detail. :-)

Tesco, Liberec, Liberecky Kraj, Bohemia(CZ), 2007

27 Dec 2007 452
Tesco's, or Tesco in the Czech Republic, is actually a British chain of department stores, although in Britain it's more of a supermarket than in the Czech Republic. The chain isn't entirely popular, perhaps simply due to its monopolizing the market in some peoples' opinion, but in spite of their being almost everywhere in the Czech Republic, the ones on Spalena in Prague, and here, in Liberec, are both well-known. This one was immortalized in the movie "Grand Hotel," although not of course as the hotel in question. The hotel used was actually the Hotel Jested, which is on Jested, a mountain overlooking Liberec.

Like a number of Czech cities, Liberec has a tram system, and as on all of the systems, Tatras make up most of the fleet. #63 is a T3.

This building on the right reminded me, of course, of the ornate Palac Adria in Prague, although this one is of course far less glamourous.

I'm fairly sure that this is either a castle, school, barracks, or monastery in Liberec, but I have to do some more research. If anyone can help me, I would be grateful.

Severočeské Muzeum, Liberec, Liberecky Kraj, Bohem…

This is the North Bohemia Museum in Liberec, officially known as the Severočeské Muzeum, which is a history and sometimes art museum. I found one guide who spoke English, although I did have to communicate in Czech with everyone else, which was easier than I expected.
