This is the other unrebuilt Tatra KT8D5 that I know of, #9030. This shot, like my photo of 9014, is at Vitezne Namesti.

I took this shot at the junction at Senovazne Namesti (Senovazne Square), where the line going to Hlavni Nadrazi (the main train station) is behind me in this picture, the line into Vaclavske Namesti (Wenceslas Square) is straight ahead, and the line to Masarykovo Nadrazi (Prague's oldest mainline train station) is off the curve to the right. The sweeping curve (by tram standards anyway) gives us the chance to better see an articulated tram in action, in this case a Tatra KT8D5 from 1987, which is still in service today. The whole KT8 fleet is currently being rebuilt with LED lights, new computerized route displays, CCTV for both greater security and improved driver visibility, and many other modern features that were science fiction in the Communist Czechoslovakia of 1987. The designation is being called KT8D5RN2P. #9029 was, however, still unrebuilt and original when I took this. The big number 24 on the roof is actually the route number, rather than the tram number.

Recently, the KT8 fleet underwent a thorough rebuilding programme to equip them with modern computerised destination boards, new seats and wheelchair access, CCTV, dual headlights and other features, with the rebuilt units being designated KT8D5RN2P, as opposed to the original DPP specification of KT8D5. As such, the original D5's have become exceedingly rare, and until I spotted this one in Vitezne Namesti, I thought they had all been retired. Soon after I shot this, I also spotted 9030, which appears to also be unrebuilt, but I'm not aware of how many others are left.

This is Hlavni Nadrazi, the main train station for Brno. In the past, I've only had one photo of Brno on Flickr, taken of Spilberk, which is the castle, but I took quite a few photos of the place and so I've been sitting on these for awhile. In addition to mainline rail service, Brno also has an extensive tram system, as you can see.
