Fall Colors, Cercany, Bohemia (CZ), 2010

This is my favorite shot of the bunch, especially since it's one of the few shots that seemed to escape the scanner trouble that I've been having. This was taken in Cercany. I mainly like the vivid colors in this one, which may be down to the fact that I was shooting Ektar through an uncoated Zeiss lens.

If I'm not mistaken, I was standing in the hamlet of Pysely when I took this, looking into Cercany. That's the sign indicating the village limits.

This was taken from the same bridge as shot 3, but in the other direction.

This isn't the most colorful shot that I took, but the foggy scene and strange colors convinced me that this is also a shot that I want to share. If I'm not mistaken, this was really how it looked, although I didn't note it at the time. This wasn't from the pedestrian bridge, incidentally. It's in the distance in this shot, and I'm actually on a road bridge. The water is much calmer here because of a dam further downstream by the pedestrian bridge.

For this shot I switched to Ektar. I liked the results, and in fact right on the heels of shooting my best ever (from a technical standpoint) black and white roll with the Ikoflex, I went on to shoot my best ever color roll. I like this shot, but I don't know if it's my favorite. There's another shot further on which I like more.

The real reason I had my Ikoflex with me was that I wanted to take some Fall photos in Cercany, so I took the train down, and finished my roll of Fomapan on the new pedestrian bridge over the Sazava.

I just randomly shot this at Hostivar, but I really like how it came out. I'm not sure why.

This was taken the same day as the pump shot, also at Hostivar. You can't see it easily in this shot, but this Class 451 Pantograph was in the new blue livery.

I've taken shots of this pump before, but this time I decided I'd try it one more time, and I liked the result so I decided to post it. This was taken with my Ikoflex, and this roll, while a lab tech told me it was poorly developed (by a professional lab), I still consider it to be technically my best Ikoflex black and white roll so far.

As I was walking back from the Mala Strana, I thought the light had improved, so I took another shot of Tynsky Chram. I haven't decided which is better, as this one actually looks darker.

In Malostranske Namesti, I took two shots of Miklasky Chram. This was the better one. The lines through the picture in the sky are the cantenary for the trams, another fixture of the square for over 100 years.

Swinging the Ikoflex (still on the tripod) over to my right, I got this shot right after the Tynsky Chram shot.

Immediately after getting back from Greece, I loaded up the Ikoflex, for the first time in a few years, with a roll of expired Pan F that I had. The results were fine, some of my better shots, actually, but I had trouble finding a lab that were willing to scan the negatives. In the end, I had prints made and scanned them, but I'm still looking for a proper scanner to have these done.

This was the most recent of several attempts to get this shot with my Ikoflex. It's obvious that there would be advantages to getting it in medium format, but I had trouble with winding the film too short a distance and overlapping shots, and even this negative isn't perfect since it's dirty and poorly developed. This latter problem is because the lab screwed it up. I hope that you like it, though. :-)
DPP #5002 At Vodickova, Prague, CZ, 2006

#5002 is the second-oldest Tatra tram still in the DPP fleet, and it is now only used on the historic tram service, #91 from Depo Stresovice-Vystaviste. Even on this service, it usually doesn't work except for on November 17th, the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, which is also usually the last day of operations for #91 before the winter break. I was very, very lucky to be in the right place at the right time to get this, as I only have two other photos, both of them horrible, of this tram in service. This photo, also, was nearly a failure, as my Ikoflex was set wrong. I was in such a rush to get the shot that in my haste I pointed my light meter at the sky without even realising it, and as such I barely underexposed. I talked to a photo student, though, who was able to clean up the shot in the full version of Adobe Photoshop (on a high-end computer with a high-end 4000 dpi Nikon negative scanner), and I worked on it a little bit, too, and now I think it looks alright.

This old school has some spectacular artwork on it, and although the artwork is in color I think it looks even better in black and white. The medium format film also helps to bring out the detail on this shot, I think.

Berliner Dom, Berlin, Germany, 2007

The Berliner Dom (Dome) was built as a cathedral between 1895 and 1905 to replace an earlier cathedral constructed here in 1747, which in turn replaced a chapel constructed in 1465 for the Hohenzollem family. Heavily damaged in World War II, the current Berliner Dom is a simpler and less glamourous building than the original, although an extensive reconstruction was conducted during the period 1975-1993.
