December 2007 NRHS Show Poster
19 Nov 2007 |
|
Well, it's that time of year again. This year I decided it would be a good idea to post the poster for my NRHS show to Flickr and iPernity to see if I can drag anyone more out of the house to come. I'll try to promote the show a little bit more over the coming days on my website and on the boards, but right now I have other things to do so it will have to just be the poster for now.
The show is going to be at the Kirkland Town Library in Clinton, NY, at 7:00p.m., on Thursday the 20th of December, as the poster says. NRHS members are high encouraged to attend, but you certainly don't have to be an NRHS member to come.
It will NOT be a slide show this time, but a video show like last time. I hope to do a slide show next time, as by that time I'll be out of good video, I think. When will that be??? I don't know, but probably next December or whenever I can get back to the Utica & Mohawk Valley Chapter's territory next.

This was....the wrong bus. No, actually that German tourist trying out the driver's seat was fiddling with the crank that changes the headboard. :-) This was actually the bus that was supposed to take us back to the hotel in Lancaster after the Milwaukee Road #261 trip during the 1995 NRHS Convention. That's why I've put a bus photo in my rail photo archives, and the only reason. :-)

As with all classic American train shows, the Steamtown Grand Reopening had to have a "Parade of Steam" featuring everything steam that could turn a wheel. Here's 261 doing its runby.

This shot is the best that I could get in this situation, unfortunately, as the crowding at the Grand Reopening of Steamtown was the largest that I had ever seen at a rail-related event up to that time, and still rivals anything that I've seen since. Even given that it was my best, I still ended up with a guy with a tripod. Notice that he's taking a video of a stationary object. Right.... I also had to crop this to hide a stain on the print that I scanned this from. Anyway, Reading, Blue Mountain, & Northern 425 is also visible in the background on the right.

Here's 261 doing a final photo runby on its departure from Pocono Summit, PA, which it backed up for to maximize the effect. Notice all of the tour buses, as the NRHS was regrettably forced to resort to bus transport in a country without an effective intercity rail passenger service!!

The 1995 NRHS Convention Special out of Steamtown terminated in Pocono Summit, but we were given a few farewell shots of 261 as it sat in Pocono Summit awaiting departure, which was done in the form of a runby.

Here's a detail shot that I got of 261 as it awaited its final departure from Pocono Summit. Although I don't remember for certain, the children protecting their ears on the right suggest to me that 261 was blowing its whistle at the time, perhaps in preparation to leave.

Here's 261 on its second runby a few seconds after Picture 5. It wasn't breaking any speed records, but it was doing a good clip for such a short running start. Again, kudos will go to whoever can figure out the correct location for me, as "Pocono Summit" is really a placeholder, and probably not accurate.

As the title indicates, the location of this runby is a guess, and at best it was close to Pocono Summit, rather than in Pocono Summit. This was the second place that the 1995 NRHS Convention Special From Scranton to Pocono Summit stopped for a runby, if anyone wants to help figure out the exact location.

Here's my fourth runby shot from 261's first runby of the 1995 NRHS Convention Special back to Pocono Summit. The location, as previously stated, is only there to fill the field and any input into the proper location would be welcomed.

This is my third photo on the first runby of 261. This is, I think, the best pan shot that I took during the 1995 NRHS Convention, and one of my best ever with a steam locomotive. The location is a wild guess necessitated by the fact that rrpicturearchives doesn't allow you to omit location or give something vague. Any input for a correction would be welcome.

This shot, of former Milwaukee Road #261, was actually a photo runby, with two encores! There's nothing quite like a 4-8-4 being gunned. :-) The excursion was the finale for the 1995 NRHS National Convention. I've got some other shots just like this one on Flickr. Just look way back in my stream and around this one. :-)

I took this right after our NRHS Convention Special pulled into Steamtown for its grand reopening in 1995, which coincided, of course, with the NRHS Convention. We had ALCO diesels on the way in, of course, but Milwaukee Road 261 on the way out!!

MA&N #2453 Cab, Thendara, NY, USA, 1998

This was taken at the 1998 National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) National Convention, although not in Syracuse, where the convention was based. Rather, I took this in Thendara, NY, at that time the northern end of the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, after having worked (as a Trainman) on the first public passenger train (at least to NRHS members from around the country) to run from Utica to Thendara since 1981. The locomotive (this one, as well as ex-NYC #8223) had been run around, and I took this picture of the cab before reboarding for the trip back to Utica.
