I took this on a Eurocity train between Bad Schandau and Dresden, where the speed limit is 160Km/h (100 m.p.h.), not fast by world standards, but fast enough to make things blur. To make things better, there was a beautiful orange-red sunrise directly to our east, so I managed to snap this and get it to blur to abstraction.

Most European railway stations, at least in major cities, host trains from several different countries, and Budapest Keleti is no exception. This locomotive, a Kraus-Maffei/Seimens 1116 Class electric, works for the Austrian OBB.

Pan shot of DB/CD/MAV Eurocity, Roztoky U Prahy Na…

I saw this coming from a long way off, but didn't get the classic angle of it bearing down on me, although I regretted it somewhat later, as I never got the number. This Ceske Drahy Class 371 electric was pulling a MAV (Hungarian State Railways) Eurocity from somewhere in Germany to Budapest, via Prague, so it obviously wasn't going to stop in Roztoky, and I wanted to be sure that I got this pan shot. I set my camera up, passed up the offset head-on view, and swung my body around for the pan. It worked perfectly, and now I have this, which may be my best pan shot ever. I hope you like it.

ZSSK #350004-8, Praha-Holesovice, Prague, CZ, 2006

This is the 1434 departure that I was going to take to Berlin, on the first leg of my journey to Cardiff. The train's number was EC172, and was a named Eurocity, "Vindobona." Because it originated in the south, it had a Zeleznicna Spolecnost, or Slovak Railways, Class 350 electric locomotive on the point. In reality, though, it's being worked by a Ceske Drahy crew, and of course is using CD rails. :-)

Finally my train, EC170, the "Hungaria," arrived with a Slovak Class 350 electric waiting to be cut off and replaced with the 371 pictured earlier. It was about 10 minutes late, but ultimately I didn't miss my Berlin connection as a result.

I attempted a number of shots from the Berlin Television Tower, but regrettably this was one of the only ones that came out because the windows were very dirty that day. I can't tell if this train was an Intercity or a Eurocity, but it would be one or the other, as that's DB Intercity equipment, which is also used on the Eurocities.
