Nuselsky Most, Picture 2, Nusle, Prague, CZ, 2007

This is my first color photo of Nuselsky Most, the tallest bridge in Prague. It doesn't look it, but it's actually both a road and metro bridge, as that spine down the belly of it contains tracks for metro trains. Therefore...Graham! This one's for you. :-)

Here's a larger, wider view of the tram track reconstruction in Albertov this summer.

Here's a black and white conversion of my original tram rails shot in Albertov.

Tram Rails, Albertov, Prague, CZ, 2007

03 Nov 2007 347
This is the type of rail now used on DPP's tram system, with the flangeways built into the railhead as on some of the rail used in heavy railway crossings. Perhaps to aid in standardisation, this rail is even used on lines that aren't embedded in the street.

Slab Track Under Construction, Albertov (Nadrazi V…

03 Nov 2007 466
Much of the new tram line construction that I've seen since moving to Prague has consisted of replacing conventional tram tracks embedded in cobblestone to this new slab track with purpose-built tram rails that have built-in flangeways. Even odder, some of this track still takes seperate rail, which seems to defeat the purpose to me, but oh well....

Nadrazi Vysehrad, Picture 2, Prague, CZ, 2007

Here's another shot of Nadrazi Vysehrad, showing the recent (early summer 2007) tram track reconstruction.

Nadrazi Vysehrad, Prague, CZ, 2007

Nadrazi Vysehrad is closed to the public, and at this point it's in such bad condition that it looks abandoned. Surprisingly, though, it's still staffed by Ceske Drahy personnel who watch the passing trains.

View From Vysehrad South

...and here's a south view from Vysehrad.

View North, Picture 3, Vysehrad, Prague, CZ, 2007

I took several shots from this angle while we were perched on Vysehrad taking tram pictures, and as a result I got a few nice generic views of Prague. Here's one to the north....

Here's a better shot, I think, of #9024.

Here's one of the third class which I mentioned earlier, DPP #9024, which is a Tatra KT8D5 articulated tram.

Here's another shot of #8627 as it continued past Vysehrad.

DPP #8627 From Vysehrad, Prague, CZ, 2007

03 Nov 2007 360
All four major classes of tram on DPP run past Vysehrad, the Tatra T3 (in its various variants), the Tatra T6A5, the Tatra KT8D5, and the Skoda 14T. Here's one of the second of these, DPP #8627.

Tatra T3 Trams From Vysehrad, Prague, CZ, 2007

Here's my second shot of DPP #8456, but with another T3M which I can't identify.

DPP #8456 From Vysehrad, Prague, CZ, 2007

On Graham's last day in Prague, I decided to fill in some of the gaps that we hadn't seen yet, and one of these unseen places, of course, was Vysehrad. We got a great view of the trams running along the River Vltava, and this was the first shot I got, of #8456 (I think) running with another T3M.

View Of Vysehrad From Zelecnicni Most, Prague, CZ,…

01 Sep 2007 424
This is a view of Vysehrad and the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul taken from Zelecnicni Most, which means literally "railway bridge" in Czech. That is indeed what it is, although there's a pedestrian walkway that's open to the public, and that's what I was using.

View Of Vysehrad From Palackeho Most, Prague, CZ,…

01 Sep 2007 341
Here's a sweeping view of southeastern Prague from the Palackeho Most, although the low altitude inhibits the view somewhat. You can see Vysehrad, the old castle and neighborhood which predates Prazky Hrad, most notably featuring the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, with the twin steeples.

Vysehrad Signal Box, Vysehrad, Prague, CZ, 2007

01 Sep 2007 460
I doubt if Vysehrad is still an interlocking box, but it is still an active signal box and maintains a feel that the steam era never left. I love this particular spot as a place for watching trains and taking photographs, except for that its cramped and I rarely have my camera to my eye fast enough to actually get anything. I only like Nusle and Vysehrad because they look so authentically steam era as neighborhoods, and well...I love steam era trains or the illusion of them. :-)
