CD 810 Class Railbuses at Praha Masarykovo Nadrazi…

These 810 Class railbuses are everywhere in the Czech Republic, or at least I've seen them everywhere. They're not new, either, as they first entered production in 1973, and were built until 1984, always by Vagonka Tatra Studenka a name that is usually abbreviated Stud. The 810s are diesel-hydromechanical, like most railbuses, and are very quick to start and stop, although their maximum operating speed is only 80Km/h (about 50 m.p.h.). That last thing doesn't matter, though, as they're mostly used for local services on very primitive branchlines where the speed limit is usually closer to 40Km/h. Their only real vice, if you assume that you want a railbus for moving small numbers of people in local services, is that like most railbuses, 810s are noisy and not particularly smooth, although they're probably not as bad as the ex-BR Class 144 Pacers used in Britain.

I'm pretty sure this was a coach based on a Class 810 railbus, rather than a real railbus. Some of these are powered railbuses, while some are pulled by small diesel locomotives or by 810s. They're used on branchlines, mainly, although I've ridden in an 810 at up to 80Km/h on the Decin-Prague mainline before.
Lineup Of Trains At Cercany, Bohemia(CZ), 2007

Cercany is so busy it's actually possible to line up an EMU, a diesel-hauled freight, and a railbus all at once if you're careful and lucky enough. :-)

I took this as I was boarding 810103-2, which was running completely light (one car only) working a service to Praha-Liben. I would get off at Holesovice, where I would photograph the Pendolino for the first time.

810103-2 was working a service arriving from Praha-Liben, which I would take back as far as Holesovice for a connection with the Prague metro. Like the Masarykovo Nadrazi sculpture, I didn't get around to posting this until now.

I took this shot while waiting for a steam excursion to take me back to Prague from Krivoklat. This is a Ceske Drahy Class 810 Railbus, very common on branchlines, but nothing spectacular. It probably wouldn't be unfair to compare it to the "Pacer" railbuses used in the UK, actually, except for that 810s are lower and wider, if I'm not mistaken.

This is one of a number of snow photos I've taken in Cercany, this one being from the latest batch taken at the beginning of February.
Class 810 Railbus Departing Northbound Out Of Hlav…

This was my first ever shoot at the north end of Praha Hlavni Nadrazi, and it was, for the most part a success, even if I had little light and even less film to do it with. This is a local railbus service departing for Roztoky U Prahy, unless I'm mistaken.
