Ex-8223 On Poster In Prague, CZ, 2007

This is one of the most amazing rail-related things that I've seen in my travels around the Czech Republic....a poster of a locomotive I used to work on in the U.S.A.!!!! You can actually see this locomotive in some of my own photos on Flickr, taken back in the good ol' days when I worked on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. I have no idea why they chose this locomotive to put on a poster promoting rail travel in the Czech Republic, but what particularly amazes me is that they were even aware of 8223's existence. In any case, when I found this poster it made my day. :-)

December 2007 NRHS Show Poster

Well, it's that time of year again. This year I decided it would be a good idea to post the poster for my NRHS show to Flickr and iPernity to see if I can drag anyone more out of the house to come. I'll try to promote the show a little bit more over the coming days on my website and on the boards, but right now I have other things to do so it will have to just be the poster for now.
The show is going to be at the Kirkland Town Library in Clinton, NY, at 7:00p.m., on Thursday the 20th of December, as the poster says. NRHS members are high encouraged to attend, but you certainly don't have to be an NRHS member to come.
It will NOT be a slide show this time, but a video show like last time. I hope to do a slide show next time, as by that time I'll be out of good video, I think. When will that be??? I don't know, but probably next December or whenever I can get back to the Utica & Mohawk Valley Chapter's territory next.

Although I could have taken this in 1999, when I was actually taking a photography course at the University of East Anglia, I'm fairly certain this was actually taken by me independently, and then developed in the darkrooms of the UEA Photo Society. I'm not sure, though. The year on the poster, of course, is referring to the 2001 UK election, as this poster is ridiculing Cherie Blair's obsession with mysticism and superstition. In the end, of course, Britain was doomed by a weak opposition and voter apathy to 4 more years of Blairite incompetence and corruption, which included the Iraq War, and yet another unsuccessful attempt to get rid of him, so one has to consider this poster as being unsuccessful, if indeed The Times dared to take a political position against Blair. It is a bit of an ethical grey area for many journalists, to be sure, when a serious newspaper like The Times does something this blatantly partisan. I've always thought that this photo was very interesting, though, in that it perfectly captured the mood of the times (no pun intended), and even included a reference to the British Rail Crisis, all in a major railway station! :-)
