Shoes On Wire On Letna, Prague, CZ, 2009
09 Dec 2009 |
|
What really constitutes Letna, or Letna Park, is a matter of definitions. Some people only count the big open space on the south side of Letenske Sady, and some people count the whole park. This is on the north side, next to the famous "Metronome" sculpture. In fact, the wire that these sneakers are hung on supplies electricity to the Metronome.

....and this one. The main difference between these shots, as far as I can tell, is that this one has this weird effect created by the blurred tree in the foreground.

This was one of several photos I shot of the landscape and sky on my way to Kutna Hora. I tried to pick the two best ones, so I chose this one.....

I took this from the church. If that's a clue as to which church it is, then great. I decided to upload this for the sky, though, not the buildings.

Here's yet another Lomo-like shot from my Nikon, still rolling through the railyards of Ostrava.

Here's an alternate to the other Lomo that I just posted, with another larger, but more moderate light leak.

I know that I've got a lot of these taken in Haje, but Haje does get some pretty impressive sunsets, so I've done a lot of shots there. This one is unfortunately marred by that light leak down the middle. Lomo issues again.

Although it wasn't sunrise or sunset, because I was shooting directly into the sun on this one, and the sun was behind a cloud, it gives that impression, I think. This is one of my favorite all time landscapes.
York Minster Sky (rescan), York, North Yorkshire,…

|
As the title indicates, this is a rescan of a much older photo from when I lived in York, with the sky burnt in slightly. This view is a favorite with some of the locals, who lie on the steps looking up at the carvings.

I really liked the way the sun was illuminating the trees, buildings and so on with the sky in this spectacular a state, so I had to get this shot....even if many other photographers on Flickr could beat this easily. :-)

I originally though that this was a sunset, but now given where it is on the roll, I'm pretty sure that it was a sunrise.
York Minster--Sky, York, North Yorkshire, UK, 2003

I took this lying on the steps of York Minster, in a position popular with local teenagers, as it's one of the most impressive ways to admire the intricate carvings that cover this world-class church. It bothers me, in a way, that I didn't have a medium format camera when I took this. I rotated the photo 180 degrees, though, as the "U" shape created by the church against the sky simply looks better this way, in my opinion. I apologize for the poor quality of the scan, though, as you can see scanner lines in the sky. The original, of course, doesn't have this problem. :-)
Selkirk Railroad Yard, Selkirk, NY, USA, 1993

This is a difficult shot to get if you're not a railroad worker, as it's from the tower. I was with a tour group, so I was lucky. The whole place is amazing, as it is (or was at that time) the largest active railroad yard in the Eastern United States. I like the sky on this shot, too.
Steps And Sky, Sidliste Haje, Prague, CZ, 2007

This was a strictly experimental shot that I took in Sidliste Haje, like so many of my experimental shots there. I had to bracket this to get it right, and I think I ended up settling on f16 and 1/125, although I could be misremembering. I don't keep a notebook for the Lomo.

I have surprisingly few photos of New York City and its surroundings considering how often I fly through there. I also grew up regularly travelling through New York City, although I've never lived there.

I took many, many different versions of this shot while waiting for the "Hungaria" to take me to Berlin. This locomotive would be our power, but for the moment it was waiting for the train to arrive with Slovak power on the point. The lighting was what struck me more than anything, though, as Class 371s are a dime a dozen in Holesovice.

I shot this while waiting for a train to Bradford, England. YES! REALLY!! I'm sick of airlines losing my luggage. Anyway, I would have to take six trains, actually, one from here to Berlin, a couchette from Berlin to Brussels, the Eurostar Brussels to London Waterloo, the Underground Waterloo to King's Cross, a GNER Intercity 225 to Leeds, and finally a First Northern local to Bradford Interchange. I don't know if it was the longest train trip I ever took, but it was certainly one of the longest. In any case, I hope you like this sunset!! :-)
Contrails Over Jindrisska, Prague, CZ, 2007
01 Sep 2007 |
|
I just spotted all of these contrails illuminated by the sunset off to the left of the photo, and liked how they looked. They do serve as a reminder that there is a lot of air traffic coming in and out of Prague, even if it's nowhere near to what you would see in London or New York.
