Saxony is one of the most densely populated cultural regions in Germany and Europe. Centuries-old traditions and a strong sense of civic commitment have developed Saxony in a special way.
Saxony, situated in the heart of Europe, has an extraordinarily eventful history. Germanic and Slavic tribes lived here, Swedes and Russians temporarily occupied the land. Several times - mostly in the wake of wars - Saxony gained and lost large amounts of territory and population.
