Doors, Gates, and Entrances

Freising, an old episcopal see north of Munich, hasn’t many houses left in a shape as bad as this, but photographers love them.

The inn is still there, but won’t be for long. The front windows have already been removed, and allow for an examination of the innards. Without Photomatix or a similar application it would have been impossible to catch a view of the inside AND the landscape behind the inn.

This door dates from 1896, and should be on the other side of the house. We hate it when it gets slammed, and it gets slammed quite often...

In the course of the church’s restoration the balcony was lifted. As a result, the plaster with which it was covered fell off and the original decoration became visible. The woman who is about to leave, is crossing a hall that was a later addition to the church. In an earlier stage, the entrance had been in the wall on the left. For a detail look here .

A day trip to Xanten, in Germany, with my mother. She didn’t feel like getting out of the car, but I walked around for half an hour, smoked a cigar, and shot some pictures. (My mother loves to see a bit of the world –and to be able to tell she’s been abroad–, but couldn’t walk more than 10m without taking a rest.)
