I too believe that we COULD beat this thing if we stood together. Unfortunately, too many people put their own (often petty) interests above collective ones - as in "I have a right not to wear a mask (and who cares if that could cost other people their lives)" - and many politicians, including some national leaders, seem to think that getting re-elected is more important than stopping a pandemic. I also know many people who are quick to buy the misinformation getting spread on social media, even intelligent people, people I would expect to be capable of thinking critically. I was a teacher for several years and I hold myself responsible too: we must have failed to teach sound ethical principles and critical thinking. When I was a kid my parents taught me that my freedom stopped at the exact same point where other people's rights began. They taught me that "thinking with your own head" meant using logic and reasoning and getting your facts from reputable sources. When did we stop teaching kids these fundamentals?
