Die Mezquita in Córdoba, Spanien
Die Hauptattraktion von Córdoba ist die Moschee-Kathedrale, genannt Mezquita.
Seit ihrem Baubeginn im Jahr 785 n.Chr. war die Freitagsmoschee das Vorbild für die Sakralkunst von Al-Andalus schlechthin. Während der Periode des Kalifats bildete sie sogar ein der Grossen Moschee von Mekka gleichwertiges Pilgerzentrum für die Muslime des westlichen Mittelmeerraumes.
Sie wurde durch zahlreiche Erweiterungen und Verschönerungen zu einer der prächtigsten Moschee überhaupt. Daran konnte auch der Einbau einer kath. Kathedrale im 16. Jh. nichts ändern.
