Bo, ja, kann man so sagen. Vor 100 Jahren, wäre ich da wo ich stehe, noch mit etwa 5 m Gletscher überdeckt gewesen. :-/

This looks very dramatic. The only glacier that I have seen was in Norway, and that had been smoothed over, was pure white and was a ski slope. For some reason I still thing of glaciers as being smooth and white, even though I know differently. Apparently this glacier has a reduced length of 2.5 Km over the last 30 years. Things will start moving more quickly these days unless something happens to dramatically slow down the rate of global warming.

Amelia, yes, it IS really dramatic! I live in this region and can observe the changes every year. I have pictures from 30 years ago, when it looked completely different.
The surface of the glacier can vary greatly. In winter, when there is snow on the glacier, the surface is naturally nice and smooth. But then it is also very dangerous to walk on the glacier!
