World Photography Day 2022

It was one of the hottest days this year.
It still is: 32°C / 90°F at 10 pm.
I think that I already long for winter.
And as we are told to expect some shortages of natural gas in December or so (no need to explain why) I already have one of my garages almost full of wood ready to be put in my fireplace and stove when need arises.
This is a sample of what is still waiting to be chopped and stashed in my basement maybe. One of these days, when it gets colder.

For now it is just something to shoot on the World Photography Day
(in lack of more interesting objects).

OH, I DON'T SEE IT AS A LACK OF AN INTERESTING SUBJECT TO PHOTOGRAPH -- WHEN ONE USES THEIR IMAGINATION, WONDERS NEVER CEASE.

Well taken, Marta, it is a most interesting object (as are all objects when seen in photographs). Good luck.

An interesting photo with many good thoughts.

In bw a perfect and attractive subject with lots of interesting textures!
You are lucky in being able to heat with wood, most of us will just have to turn down the heating as far as possible.

You have managed to find beauty in the mundane things. Excellent use of mono to emphasize the textures.

The Black & White format hints of Winter and a stark reality of what is to come in several months.

You are right to make wooden provisions, even if it seems weird to think about winter when you have such high temperatures... It was also hot in our region (sometimes up to 40°), but during the nights it was always cooling down.

Well I find this a very interesting subject. There can be such beauty in our everyday world - and you have created that here. I am very connected to trees, and love that you have done this in black and white which brings out the wonderful details of the rings of the trees. It's interesting to me how there are so many details in all areas of the photo (it would be wonderful really large), but those details don't compete with each other. Probably in color they would compete. Instead this lets my eye wander all over the photo and not get stuck in one place.

You probably already know I love square photos also. I learned on a square format camera, way back when, and it still resonates deeply with me. I like how it gives me a different view of the world than my normal daily vision does (which is kind of more 16:9ish).

I find black and white nature photography very difficult. What inspires you to choose black and white for a photo such as this?

Happy (belated) World Photography Day!
