This year we commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Join the Poles today on August 1 at 5 PM CET/11 AM ET for one minute of silence—symbolizing the W-Hour, the codename for the date and time that began Operation Tempest in German-occupied Warsaw, and hence the Warsaw Uprising.

For many years it was my Dad who used to put the flag there on every August 1. Since he had passed it became my duty to do it. The flag will be there till October 2. That's how long the Uprising lasted.

Never to be forgotten. I was just watching on the tv a programme about Polish II corps in Italy. My late father's friend Vaz was one of General Anders' men and was at the capture of Cassino. Its a shame he died before I could get to talk to him properly because he was also in SOE later and went on some mission into Poland to do with the Home Army in 1945. The other great thing about II Corps was Wojtek-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wojtek_(bear). Keep your flag flying the uprising was an incredible achievement.

Your understanding of how important is learning from our ancestors and history is far beyond what current generations want to know.
One of my uncles was with the Polish II Corps in Italy too. He died when I was a youngster and I do not remember him talking much about the war. Other than how painful it was.
Oh! I think that I heard about Private Wojtek from him when I was a little kid.
