As a matter of fact Empress Catherine was furious over the adoption of the document, which she believed threatened Russian influence in Poland. She was seconded by Frenchmen, Germans (Prussians) and forces from all around Europe. They retaliated and four years later Poland lost its sovereignty for 123 long years.
And history repeats itself...

Those clothes were typical 'noble' attire in Poland 300 years ago, they were very popular 200 years ago, they were frequent ceremonial attire till WWII, then they were effectively banned by communists here. Now those costumes come back and are used during all sorts of official/public and private events!
