Das Kunstwerk "Centurione" von Igor Mitoraj aus dem Jahr 1987 steht ganz prominent am Fuß der Brücke zum Alten Rathaus in Bamberg. "Der Künstler orientiert sich an klassischen Meistern wie etwa Michelangelo und fügt seinen Werken zusätzlich gezielte Beschädigungen zu. So stellt die in Bamberg stehende Plastik das überdimensionale Fragment eines jugendlich wirkenden Gesichts dar. Der Statue fehlen jedoch nicht nur große Teile des Gesichts und der Hinterkopf, sondern auch beide Augen. Hiermit spielt der Künstler sowohl auf die Unvollkommenheit der menschlichen Natur, als auch auf ihre Zerbrechlichkeit an."

"The artist takes his inspiration from classical masters such as Michelangelo and also adds deliberate damage to his works. The sculpture in Bamberg, for example, depicts an oversized fragment of a youthful-looking face. However, the statue is not only missing large parts of the face and the back of the head, but also both eyes. In this way, the artist alludes to both the imperfection of human nature and its fragility."
