Ein barockes Schmuckstück ... A baroque gem ...

... ist das Käppele auf dem Nikolausberg in Würzburg. Der eigentliche Name der kleinen Kapelle lautet Wallfahrtskirche Mariä Heimsuchung. Zu diesem Wunderwerk des Barock, das nach Plänen von Balthasar Neumann gebaut und 1750 vollendet wurde, gelangt man über 255 Treppenstufen. Nach Neumanns Tod verband Dominikus Ickelsheimer die Kapelle über eine imposante Treppenanlage mit vierzehn Kreuzwegstationen mit der Altstadt. Das Käppele ist innen dringend renovierungsbedürftig und die Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz wirbt für eine Renovierung Spenden ein.

... is the "Käppele" on the Nikolausberg in Würzburg. The actual name of the small chapel is Pilgrimage Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. This Baroque marvel, which was built according to plans by Balthasar Neumann and completed in 1750, can be reached via 255 steps. After Neumann's death, Dominikus Ickelsheimer connected the chapel to the old town via an imposing staircase with fourteen Stations of the Cross. The inside of the Käppele is in urgent need of renovation and the German Foundation for Monument Protection is raising funds to renovate it.
