Let the sun come in

Zur Zeit blüht in unserem Garten die gelbe Strauchpfingstrose Paeonia lutea Brocade. Diese Farbe war lange bei Strauchpfingstrosen unbekannt, obwohl diese Kultur in China und Japan bereits seit Hunderten von Jahren praktiziert wurde. Emil Lemoine gelang es als erstem in Frankreich die Zucht von gelben Strauchpfingstrosen, in den USA waren Prof. Arthur Percy Saunders, Nasson Daphnis und Dr. David Reath erfolgreich. Die gelbe, wenig gefüllte Blüte (Durchmesser ca. 8-9 cm), sieht nicht nur schön aus, sondern duftet auch sehr angenehm. Auffällig ist das bunte Laub (s. Foto), besonders das Herbstlaub ist ein Hingucker. Diese nicht ganz billige Strauchpfingstrose wird in Deutschland von mehreren Gärtnereien angeboten.

At the moment the yellow shrub peony Paeonia lutea Brocade is blooming in our garden. This colour has long been unknown in shrub peonies, although this culture has been grown in China and Japan for hundreds of years. Emil Lemoine was the first in France to succeed in breeding yellow peonies, and in the USA Prof. Arthur Percy Saunders, Nasson Daphnis and Dr. David Reath were successful. The large, yellow blossom (diameter approx. 8-9 cm) not only looks beautiful, but also smells very pleasant. The colourful foliage is remarkable (see photo), especially the autumn foliage is an eye-catcher. This not quite cheap shrub peony is offered by several nurseries in Germany.
