THE GRAY HYPOTHESIS

On a black and white country
the gray was recommended to me - an extraordinary
resource. With the gray hypothesis I could
test
unusual solutions -
try the warm (that is neither cold nor
hot)
explore the twilight (that
it's not night or day) practice omission
(that is neither a lie
nor true). Mixed black and white would allow
at last
live accordingly
clear out the extremes (so oblivious to virtue)
liquefy myself in the mob
in the center in
the golden
average. With the gray palette I could
hove the art of survival that
(as the meek well know) is
not being alive
or dead.

A HIPÓTESE DO CINZENTO

Num país a preto e branco
recomendaram-me o cinzento - um recurso
extraordinário. Com a hipótese do cinzento poderia
ensaiar
soluções inusitadas -
experimentar o morno (que não é frio nem
quente)
explorar o lusco-fusco (que
não é noite nem dia) praticar a omissão
(que não é mentira
nem verdade). Preto e branco misturados permitiam
finalmente
viver em conformidade
desocupar os extremos (tão alheios à virtude)
liquefazer-me na turba
no centro na
média
dourada. Com a paleta de cinzentos poderia
aprimorar a arte da sobrevivência que
(como os mansos bem sabem) é
não estar vivo
nem morto.
