Gas lamp and detail
A functioning gas-lit street lamp in Palace Gardens, London. These lights used to be lit by hand - the rod in bottom left corner of the left hand picture was used to rest the lamplighter's ladder. Today there is an electrical automated ignition system, seen in the right hand picture.
