Towards the light. Pennsylvania Penitentiary, Philadelphia. The Eastern State Penitentiary opened in 1829 and closed in 1971. The prison is now a ruin, open for visits. When it first opened the prisoners were held in solitary confinement 23 hours a day. Silence was absolute, the guards even wore special soft shoes to prevent making noise as they patrolled.

Aucune prison est un lieu de villégiature mais parmi elles s'en trouvent des plus cauchemardesques que d'autres comme celle-ci. Il y a encore trop de prisons qui ont des conditions similaires aujourd'hui.
