Cacyreus marshalli on Aptenia cordifolia

The Geranium Bronze or Brun des pélargoniums in French (Cacyreus marshalli) is a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae.
The wingspan is 15–23 mm for males and 18–27 mm for females. Adults are on wing year round in warmer areas, but usually from August to May in South Africa.
It is brown with a fine black edge interlaced with white and a very thin tail. The underside is grey-brown with dark bands.
The species is native of South Africa. It has, however, been introduced (deliberately or accidentally) to Mediterranean Europe (initially the Balaeric Islands), where it has spread as a pest of cultivated Pelargonium geraniums.
On my balcony she destroyed my last pelargonium :(
Hope that she will not be a killer also for this succulent !

Sweet little pest =) There is a rule on my balcony for the caterpillars: if I find you eating my geranium's flowers, you get fed to my fish in return ;) We don't have this species in particular here, but there are others which destroy geranium flowers -- thankfully none that destroy the whole plant. We also have swallowtail butterflies whose larva decimated my crop of parsley last year killing all but one plant. So, yeah, pretty pest ;) Nice shot, too!

Tiny little guy, isn't he! Great shot and close-up view, but too bad that it's causing so much damage.

Amazing what damage an introduced species can do when there is no competition and no predator. I saw a recent news article about the fight against introduced snakes on the island of Guam.
