Looking south towards Thanonchira Jn. Two single lines at this point. I'm standing in the 3ft of the line from Nong Khai. Line from Ubon Ratchathani is on the left..

At the approach of a train, the red and white barriers slide down the pole - at the risk of decapitating motor cyclists - accompanied by bells and flashing lights. The gates on wheels I presume are used for when the barriers fail.

State Railways of Thailand.
Showing the rather spartan interior, and signs of its Bangkok inner suburban origins. This, on a journey of about 7 and a half hours from Sikoraphum, in the North East, to Bangkok, about 250 miles.

Pit stop
|
|
En route from Thanonchira Jn to Kaeng Khoi. Departing Thanonchira Jn we trundled on a couple of miles to the next station of Nakhon Ratchasima. After a record stop of 30 seconds we moved just off the platform end on to the fuelling point and sat there for 35 minutes whilst the train was fuelled and watered.
