HBM Market Harborough Leicestershire 27th January 2025
Market Harborough is a market town situated in the far southeast of Leicestershire, on the border with Northamptonshire. In the town centre is the Old Grammar School, a small timber building dating from 1614. The ground floor is open, creating a covered market area.
HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.

HFF Great Central Railway Loughborough Leicestershire January 2025
On the first day of the 2025 Winter Gala I had a morning turn on visiting engine GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 3850. I was checking the water level in the tender when this view presented itself.
The original GWR 2-8-0s introduced in 1908 had a typically Edwardian small cab roof but even this 1940s update is hardly less Spartan especially when running backwards in the rain!
Fences are maybe not the main interest here but HFF to everyone. Enjoy the weekend ahead.

Great Central Railway Rothley Leicestershire 23rd January 2025
Rothley station on the Great Central Railway has been restored as it would have been in the early 20th century and is lit by gas lamps. This gives it a fabulous atmospheric feel in the late evening in winter. Here BR Standard 5 73156 waits to depart for Leicester near the end of a Gala weekend.
An Edwardian HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.

The ancient market town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire lies to the northwest of the Cotswold Hills, but just outside the boundary, & features many Medieval and Tudor buildings. The half-timbered building on the left is The Bell Hotel dating from 1696. Tewkesbury Abbey lies off shot further to the left.
HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.

HFF Leicester England
3 for the price of one! HFF, HBM & HWW....
The Leicester & Swannington Railway opened in July 1832 only 7 years after the Stockton & Darlington. It was not only the first public railway in the Midlands but also ranks as the 6th such undertaking in the country & the basis for the later, greater Midland Railway. The first train was actually driven by George Stephenson. It was initially built for freight, mainly coal, but at Leicester West Bridge a station was opened.
The station closed to passengers as early as 1928 but the residents of Tudor Road in the background continued to enjoy the sounds of steam-hauled freight trains until1966.
HFF to everyone. Have a great weekend.
