Me gustan los árboles, amigos callados del hombre, aunque a veces gimen azotados por el viento, cascabelean sus hojas en las choperas cuando el viento les saca notas de sus hojas, murmuran palabras de amor cuando rozan sus ramas con las del vecino y lloran cuando chisporrotea su madera mordida cruelmente por el fuego.

I looked at this website www.monumentaltrees.com/es/esp/comunidaddemadrid/madrid/21385_parquedeloeste
It's in Spanish but it does say it was planted 20 years either side of 1940. I would rule out 1936 to about 1946 as the Civil War and subsequent battlefield debris here (unexploded bombs, etc.) would make this an unlikely planting era for the park. The size of this and other trees suggests to me that it is a survivor of the war and must have been planted in the earlier development of the park in the first few decades of the 20th century. Just a guess though!

There are as many health shops in Spain as in the UK, Carol and they sell just as many ginkgo supplements. But all the trees in this very tree-y park are protected. and rightly so!

I hope to see it in autumn, Josiane (I hope to God that the parks aren't closed again!!!). I have seen many other (smaller) trees in autumn. This should be spectacular!
