A bit too far for as clear a shot as I would have liked, especially without lenses, tripod etc, but the magnificent palace / monastery is visible for many miles around, especially from the surrounding mountains of La Sierra de La Guadarrama.

I have seen similar colourings in the Peak District and Dartmoor, but that was more to do with atmospherics and light than the underlying geolgy or flora.

My sister was about to have a surprise 60th birthday party with 25 surprise guests this coming Thursday.
