Sister-in-law

Sister-in-law
She is a nurse at Queen's Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. (Here she is at home.) My brother bought her some new gear for work, probably from an industrial supply company. She looks happy with her new protections. (Photo by my brother, of course.)

My brother is immuno-suppressed from having a bone marrow transplant last year. Needless to say, they are both quite frightened these days. Before leaving the hospital and again when she comes home, she meticulously decontaminates herself, but it's still a pretty high risk situation.

Incredibly important!
Especially sick people and those whose immune systems are weak.
Those who suffer from pre-existing conditions must be treated with particular care.
If we go to elderly people or know that diabetes or other lung diseases are involved,
we protect ourselves with masks against possible infections.
Just like the doctors in the hospitals. However, we could not work in such protective clothing.
But we know that there are cases where the protection is even more extensive.
I guess your sister-in-law doesn't have to protect herself in a hospital.
She'll be provided everything? And I think... it's a necessary way to decontaminate.
Hopefully this will all be over soon and we can get some normalcy back.

So many greetings from Germany, where the virus has us quite hard in its grip.
Like everyone else, we stick to rules that don't really suit us and make the best of it.

All the best to you and your loved ones.

She is at home, not at work. She has a full protective suit at the hospital. She decontaminates twice - before she leaves the hospital and when she gets home. Thank you so much, Katja, it is a very nervous time - made worse here by poor leadership. Take care, Katja, and I wish us all the best of luck!

You'll look back on this image in a year or so and think it's hilarious............but at the moment it's deadly serious.

Those who fight this virus on the front lines are today's true heroes!

I certainly don't envy them, I can't imagine the stress! Thank you, Keith.

I’m sure good PPE really helps nurses. Though being young and fit offers a large degree of protection, constant exposure to the virus must wear down your immunity. Our government are trying to get more PPE out.
It’s humbling to think of people so young walking onto wards full of desperately ill people.

We have the same shortages here, quite dire in many cases. The great leader of our federal government is not trying much of anything, so it is up to state governors. Some are working like champions (Cuomo of New York, Newsom of California), others are more lackadaisical or even negligent (mostly in the south).

The medical workers make me think of Chernobyl and the brave men who did their jobs knowing the danger.

Thank you for your very thoughtful comment, Jean-Paul. It does feel like a big slap in the face from Nature! I have been enjoying the photos of the Venice canals, with all of the wildlife swimming and floating around. The past few years have been...well...kind of terrible, especially from a psychological standpoint. Lack of stability everywhere, bad leadership (especially in the US), environmental decline, constant disagreement about everything! Yes, I too hope "we will be able to remember this" time of coming together.

I do! But she can't, she has to go to work. It scares me! She and my brother live in Hawaii, so it's no threat to me, but I worry about them all the time.

Bien Amicalement. Jean Paul
