The Small Tortoiseshell is among the most well-known butterflies in Britain and Ireland. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of nettles.

I have seen lots of bees on nettles on my walks but not many butterflies and the ones I have seen have been too quick for me! This one is beautifully captured.

Very nice fotography, Amelia. The name in German is "Kleiner Fuchs" (Small Fox), It is every year one of the first butterflies.
Like the intensity of the cobwebs on the thistle.

A lovely image of the small tortoiseshell, Amelia. Nice to see it on a thistle, too. The even lighting suits the subject well. The depth of field is perfect to make the subject pop. All the best, Joe
