About Don Barrett (aka DBs travels) club

From: Florida

Environmentalist/Sociologist/Activist, my photography focuses on using nature, architecture, and history to stimulate thinking about the relationship between environment and cultural identity. See my blog for more reflections on identity and other issues.

Based in the Coachella Valley, I spend much of my travel time camping and exploring in the rural U.S. West, though my pictures also go back into my history. I am also an activist on both sexuality and labor issues, but my photographing of humans doesn't work well so few pictures of gay pride parades, labor protests, or things like that! I try to fill in some of the gaps in my photography through my contacts.

A word on my photography.... My approach in life is one of encouraging ordinary citizens, and particularly working-class citizens, to explore AND to document and share. In keeping with this approach, it seems inappropriate to use expensive equipment or to do high-tech processing, thus my photography is with relatively inexpensive cameras and I seldom do any processing other than cropping and minor color adjustment.
